6 Tips To Get The Most Out Of Batting Practice

BP should be an important part of your preparation for the game. Too many times it is used as a turn and burn session (see how many home runs you can hit), instead of getting better. Use these principles to improve your game.

The following six tips can help you get the most out of your rounds of batting practice.

One-cherish your batting practice time. Most people don’t get to work a lot and see the actual flight of the ball. Most of your work comes in a batting cage. There have been many times I have thought my swing was the best it could be, only to get on the field and see that my ball flight stunk. Take batting practice seriously, work.

Two-have a plan. Know yourself. Know what you need to work on. If you rolled over three balls in your last game, work on letting the ball get deep and hitting the ball to the opposite field. If you are getting beat on the inside pitch, work on getting the head out.

Three-let whomever is throwing BP know what you are working on. Granted, a lot of times they can’t put it exactly where they want it, but give it a shot. Does no good when the two of you aren’t on the same page. The BP thrower may be trying to work you inside when you are trying to work the other way. Communicate.

Four-don’t let other guys in your hitting group change your approach. An example would be if you are a lead off hitter hitting with the big dogs in your group. They are trying to drop bombs, this doesn’t mean that you try and do the same, stick to your game plan.

Five-don’t let one swing ruin your entire round. Don’t be a mental midget. Baseball is hard, failing 7 out of 10 times is good. Get better on the next swing.

Six-try to end up on a good swing, keep that good feeling going.

Recap, take your rounds of batting practice seriously. Make it help you instead of hurt you. And remember, you never know who is watching.
